Festival of Sleep Day

Now this is a day I can get behind.

Seriously, celebrating the importance of sleep after an action-packed couple of weeks of holiday madness is something worthy of a call-out. Despite quite a bit of research, I was unable to find the person or organization that created this recognition day. (If you know, please let me know in the comment section.) But I’d love to give them some mad props for the idea. As someone who has struggled with insomnia for decades and someone who now tries to remind and educate people on how to live more fully by taking care of yourself and your loved ones, I can think of very few things that benefit our holistic health more than a plentiful amount of restful sleep.

As we focus on a new year, many of us try to make and keep resolutions related to our physical well-being. Feeling our best requires enough sleep. Those of us who have ever struggled with sleep, can attest to how lack of sleep affects every aspect of our well-being. Tons of resources exist out there for those of us who struggle with sleep, and all I will say in this space is how much I understand the frustration of not being able to sleep when we need it.

As for me, I have reduced the amount of caffeine I drink and when in the day I drink caffeinated drinks. I have resolved to create better sleep hygiene by sticking to a bedtime and reducing my screen time (again. I have failed the resolution SOOO many times.) I’m also continuing to work on my meditation practice and incorporating more types of yoga into my daily activity.

Do you struggle with sleep? Have you implemented things and made lifestyle changes that have helped you sleep better and longer? Please let me know in the comments.

And here’s to enjoying the Festival of Sleep with a nice long nap!

Oh, to be able to sleep as fully and as quickly as my greyhound Hux. This big guy LOVES sleep.
